MIXTAPE
What's playing at the Dejour HQ?
Some old, some new, some fast, some slow.  Here's a sample of what we've been spinning at the Dejour HQ for the past little while.
by KYLE MORRISON

WALE (THAT'S WAH-LAY)

Hercules Theme by Hercules and Love Affair
It’s doesn’t get much smoother than this and what’s cooler than a band having their own theme song?

Back in the Go Go by Wale (featuring Bun B ad Pusha T)
This infectiously catchy track from Wale’s (pronounced wah-lay for those who are late to the party) soon to be released mix tape about nothing shows Wale’s still got it.

L.E.S. Artistes (XXXChange Remix) by Santogold
Oh, those L.E.S. Artistes (no, not artists) have it so hard.  At least Santogold sympathizes with them and shows she’s not just another M.I.A. rip off.

Overpowered by the Funk by The Clash (featuring Futura 2000)
Everyone loves The Clash and they do their thing on this track, but for some reason I can’t get enough of (graffiti artist) Futura 2000’s half assed rapping/spoken word/shout outs.

The Heist by Big L
Big L was one of those rappers actually lived the lifestyle they glamorized on his records and it’s a shame he’s gone because this is some of the best story telling I’ve heard in a while.

Wrestlers by Hot Chip
Everyone’s favorite indie/electro/dance rockers make some metaphors about love and wrestling or something but I’m more interested in the soft glithcy beat, catchy rhymes and deliciously smooth base line.

My Life’s Alright Without You by No Age
On the surface, this lo-fi track may seem rough and fuzzy, but that’s exactly what we love about No Age.  The raw energy plus the raw melodic guitar lines keep this on repeat.

Pregnant Pause by Cass McCombs
Cass McCombs is back at it again doing his best Morrissey impression on his new(er) album, and even though it may not be anything new, were OK with that when it sounds this good.

Great DJ by The Ting Tings
I know, I know, enough with the Vampire Weekend comparisons, but really, this one is bonafide.  This is what they would sound like if the singer was a girl and they lived on the other side of the Atlantic.
