MODERN MENSWEAR
A look inside of Hywel Davies' new menswear bible.
by JOSE R. MEJIA
Modern Menswear, published by UK publishing house Laurence King,
presents an arresting visual document that manages to encapsulate
several different streams of the current men's fashion industry.
Everything from the avant-garde to the mainsream gets time to shine in
this expertly-compiled hardcover.
The book seems to lean harder on its carefully edited selection of
images from every menswear designer that matters- and a few who don't.
It isn't that the text isn't up to par; Hywel Davies is an excellently
concise and informative writer. However, because of the scope and
breadth of its reach, and, the pleasing stock used for the pages, the
images just seem to grab your attention and fail to let it go.
Featuring the work of Aitor Throup through to Yohji Yamamoto, Modern
Menswear is a sourcebook for all of today's fashion-forward men for
navigating what is shaping up to be a new era in the evolution of not
only the clothes we put on our backs but the lives that we lead inside
of those garments.
